Welcome Highlands Primary - our smallest school yet

sponsor-ed’s smallest school has just joined the program! Highlands Primary School, located in between Seymour and Alexandra, has a total of 17 students and that’s from Prep to Grade 6! That’s smaller than most class sizes!

Highlands Primary School was established in 1902 and their motto is ‘Small Classes Big Ideas’ Whilst the area doesn’t have mobile range, it does have the internet, so the school can still communicate with it’s community. more

Do you remember the Monkees?

If you remember the Monkees you’re of an age that probably has you scratching your head wondering what all this social media is about. Well, I do remember the Monkees and I still remember my favourite, it was Mickey Dolenz the drummer. It kind of worked liked this; boys liked Mickey and girls liked David Jones (he still looks cute a 64 – yes he’s that old).

When social media first hit us through MySpace I tried to use it but didn’t quite get it. This business about free expression for everyone to see was not for me. We tend to become more private as we get older. It was bugging me I must admit. I’ve dedicated the last 10 years of my life to the digital space lecturing and running two businesses so someone like me surely must be into social media. more

OK Renee - Take pressure off the front desk

We are yet to meet a school that hasn’t got a very busy front office! Administration duties, dealing with the sick-bay kids, taking deliveries and coordinating busy teacher schedules are all in a days work for a school’s administration staff. On top of this, there are endless calls to the office from parents asking for another copy of: a permission slip, a notice, the newsletter, the canteen pricelist, or for information on the school fete, after school care, where to buy tickets to the school concert, etc! more

Private web pages

With over 140 schools in the sponsor-ed network, we are in a great position to hear first hand what school's communication needs are. One issue that has come up often is the protection of certain content on the school's website. We're very pleased to report that we will have this function available from day 1 of Term 4. Over the next few weeks we will be writting to all our schools informing them of the implementation plans and training.

Key features of the protected pages are;

  • each parent will be invited by the school to register to gain access to private web pages
  • school's will be able to vett applications
  • each parent/registrant will be issued a username and password to access private pages

Thank you to all our schools for their many suggestions - which bring us onto our next topic, the sponsor-ed Communcations Survey

The sponsor-ed Communications Survey

We're very excited about the communciation possibilities of the sponsor-ed solution. As mentioned, we do get many request for new features and enhancements. There are many things in development that have come as suggestions from our schools; online payments and blogs are just two currently underway. We are always appreciative of the fedback from schools so we encourage this to please continue. We would however like to gain as much knowledge as possible about what your community wants from an online perspective so we can build a comprehensive developmental list for 2010. The aim being to build more value into the sponsor-ed web experienece for you and your community.

With  your permission, we would like to survey your school parents. The survey will be conducted online and will conform to all the privacy standards. The survey will be anonymous with the findings made available to all participating schools.

We will write to you over the next few weeks with further details.

Google Analytics - what's really happening on your site?

A few weeks ago we wrote to all schools inviting them to gain access to the wonderful world of Google Analytics;  a report that allows you to learn how your site is being used.

Many schools have commented on how enlightening the information is. They have learned for example, about how many people open the online newsletter; in actual fact they know how soon after it's up online when people begin reading it. It's also clear what a huge traffic driver Footy Tipping has been as well as how many parents are downloading forms and visiting the calendar. All the stats are designed to make you a better web publisher and communicator with your parent community.

Visit OK Renee for more information on Goggle Analytics.

If you have not set up Google Analytics (a free service by the way), please contact support at helpdesk@sponsor-ed.com.au or on 1300 755 010
